Two weeks into the ban that caused Anthropic to pull its powerful cybersecurity-oriented models , Mythos 5 and Fable 5, from the market, the Trump administration is softening its stance.

It is now allowing Anthropic to make Mythos 5 available to more than 100 specific U.S. government agencies and companies, including allowing the non-American employees at those organizations to access to the model, both Semafor and Reuters report. This list also includes Anthropic’s own non-American employees, who were included in the original ban that forbade non-Americans from accessing the models.

“I have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place to permit certain trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 Model,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote to Anthropic’s chief compute officer Tom Brown on Friday, according to the missive seen by Semafor.

‘We are excited to see the positive impact that Mythos can have on our customers, particularly in sectors like cybersecurity where custom models are essential.’

AWS introduces MicroVMs for isolated sandboxes with full lifecycle control

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a new service called MicroVMs, which allows developers to run isolated, disposable virtual machines directly within AWS Lambda functions.

This innovation promises enhanced security and resource efficiency by enabling users to build and test sandboxed environments quickly without the overhead of traditional VMs or containers. According to AWS: 'MicroVMs enable us to build and test sandboxed environments quickly without the overhead of traditional VMs or containers.'

Developers can now create, manage, and delete these lightweight virtual machines on-demand, providing a more flexible and efficient way to handle isolated computing needs.

Anthropics Mythos 5 is back after Trump negotiations

After a two-week negotiation process, Anthropic's powerful AI model, Mythos 5, has been authorized for use by over 100 U.S. companies and agencies as ‘trusted partners’. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey.

Anthropic’s Mythos 5 is back after Trump negotiations

The Trump administration approved a select group of users, but Fable 5 is still nowhere in sight.

After a rollercoaster negotiation process with the Trump administration that dragged on for two weeks, Anthropic’s Mythos 5 is finally back in action — at least, somewhat, for a select group of organizations, according to a letter from the government to Anthropic that was viewed by The Verge .

The letter, dated June 26th and sent by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown, who had been recently leading negotiations, states that there’s been a “revision to the license requirements” based on the fact that Anthropic has recently “worked with the U.S. government to address risks” associated with Mythos 5 and Fable 5.

Anthropic spokesperson Danielle Ghiglieri told The Verge in a statement that the company had “received notice from the US government that Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a small group of cyber defenders and infrastructure providers.” She added, “We are working to provision the approved set of providers and restore their access to Mythos 5 as quickly as possible.

The US government did not lift the export control directive it hit Anthropic with two weeks ago, which barred any foreign national from accessing either model (including Anthropic’s own employees). Instead, the government essentially made an exception for Mythos 5, approving a select group of organizations for access the same way it did for OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 , announced earlier today.

'We are excited to see the positive impact that Mythos can have on our customers, particularly in sectors like cybersecurity where custom models are essential.'

Previewing GPT-5.6 Sol: a next-generation model from OpenAI

Loading… Share Capabilities Capabilities Stronger cyber capabilities with stronger safeguards A layered safeguard stack Improving robustness with automated red-teaming Availability and pricing Table of contents

We're beginning a limited preview of the GPT‑5.6 series: Sol, our flagship model; Terra, a balanced model for everyday work; and Luna, a fast and affordable model. Terra has competitive performance to GPT‑5.5 while being 2x cheaper and Luna brings strong capability at our lowest cost.

GPT‑5.6 Sol launches with our most robust safety stack to date. We strengthened protections for higher-risk activity, sensitive cyber requests, and repeated misuse, and spent multiple weeks finding weaknesses, pressure-testing our system, and hardening it against real-world attacks.

GPT‑5.6 Sol is our strongest model yet. To give a preview of model performance, we share a set of evaluations highlighting improved agentic capabilities in coding, biology, and cybersecurity, with additional safety and preparedness evaluations available in our system card (opens in a new window) . We will share an expanded suite of evaluation results when we make the model broadly available.

With GPT‑5.6, we’re introducing a new max reasoning effort to give Sol the most time to reason deeply. Additionally, we’re introducing a new ultra mode that goes beyond the capabilities of a single agent by leveraging subagents to accelerate complex work.

'We believe this is just the beginning of what’s possible with GPT-5.6 Sol, and we’re excited to see how developers will use it.'
