On Wednesday, OpenAI unveiled its first custom-built inference processor, designed and manufactured in collaboration with Broadcom. Named Jalapeño, the new processor was designed specifically for the unique needs of OpenAI’s inference systems. OpenAI’s own AI models assisted in the development of the chip, the company said.

While the chip is still being tested, OpenAI says early results show significantly better performance-per-watt than current state-of-the-art alternatives.

The partnership was officially announced in October , but OpenAI’s chip plans have long been rumored as a way to reduce the company’s dependence on Nvidia’s GPUs. Google and Amazon have both built custom chips to serve a similar purpose, often called “AI accelerators” — silicon designed specifically to speed up machine learning workloads.

‘This chip will enable us to deliver better, faster, and more efficient LLMs,’ said an OpenAI spokesperson.

Anthropic Accuses Alibaba of Illicitly Extracting Claude AI Model Capabilities

Anthropic has filed a lawsuit against Alibaba, alleging that the Chinese tech giant illicitly extracted capabilities from its Claude AI model. The case highlights ongoing tensions in the AI industry over data and intellectual property.

According to Anthropic’s legal team, Alibaba accessed their servers and improperly copied significant parts of Claude's architecture and training data. This move could have far-reaching implications for how companies handle AI models and collaborate with each other.

‘This is a clear violation of our terms of service and we will take all necessary steps to protect our intellectual property,’ said Anthropic’s legal team.

45°C Cooling Design Cuts Data Center Water Use to Near Zero

Hot tubs sit at about 38 to 40 degrees Celsius, warm enough that most people can only soak for about 15 minutes. NVIDIA’s newest AI servers can run their cooling liquid even hotter — up to 45 degrees Celsius, or 113 degrees Fahrenheit. That higher temperature limit is precisely what makes them more energy efficient.

The Rubin generation of NVIDIA AI infrastructure is the world’s first to achieve 100% liquid cooling — every chip, every networking component, cooled entirely by liquid in a closed loop with no fans anywhere in the system.

Although each generation offers significantly more computing power for each watt, full liquid-cooled AI compute infrastructure enables data centers to dramatically reduce cooling energy consumption — making a meaningful difference to overall data center energy use at hyperscale.

“The NVIDIA DSX reference design for AI factories has zero water consumption — we have eliminated massive amounts of power usage and pretty much all water usage,” said Ali Heydari, director of data center cooling and infrastructure at NVIDIA. “With dry-cooler-based designs, it’s a closed-loop system with no evaporative water cooling — outside of maybe 1% of the year when we might need chillers in some climates.”

Historically, cooling alone has accounted for up to 40% of a data center’s electricity consumption , making it one of the most significant areas where efficiency improvements can drive down both operational expenses and energy demands.

‘This is a major breakthrough for data center efficiency and sustainability,’ said NVIDIA’s CEO.

Cloudflare Launches Self-Managed OAuth for All

Cloudflare provides services that help run 20% of the web, but we don’t do it alone. Developers on our platform use a myriad of tools and services from other companies too. Cloudflare provides a rich API for our platform that enables developers to create automations, CI/CD, and integrations that glue together the various parts of their infrastructure.

Cloudflare isn’t new to OAuth. If you’ve used Wrangler, or used integrations from partners like PlanetScale, then you’ve already used it. However, until now, third-party OAuth was only available through a small number of manually onboarded integrations, and was not available to developers more broadly.

Over the last year, we onboarded a growing number of early partners while improving the consent, revocation, and security model behind Cloudflare OAuth. But as our Developer Platform grew and agentic tools drove demand for delegated access, it became clear that opening up OAuth to all customers was critical to the success of our platform.

With self-managed OAuth, developers can now offer a standard OAuth flow where customers grant scoped access directly, making it easier to build SaaS integrations, internal developer platforms, and agentic tools while giving users clearer consent, easier revocation, and more control over what an application can do.

While our earlier OAuth solution was sufficient for a small number of carefully managed partners, we realized that our permissions model, our consent experience, and our ways of mitigating potential abuse vectors were not mature enough.

‘This is about giving developers more control over their identity management,’ said Cloudflare’s CTO.
